SUMMARY:LEEFWERK : ARTISTS ON TOUR - THE MOVIE @OMS
DESCRIPTION:Niels Coppens and Roman Luterbacher as LEEFWERK are delighted to present the movie they created using the collected footage from their recent tour.\nDuring 3 months they did a tour with a non fictional\, guerilla type performance piece. ‘ARTISTS ON TOUR’ is a car that has been converted into a merchandising stand with which they drive into contemporary art centers on their way to show the results of their artistic practice. Their art book has become the central outcome of the show. \n\nIt has been made available for purchase\, along with their established credibility\, through a free donation to the highest bidder during the more interactive phase of the performance.\n\nThrough this incredible journey\, they have come to realize that becoming an artist can also be an artistic project.\n\n\nInspired by this self-assured idea\, LEEFWERK has worked on the high-sensitivity events and created a 30-minute film capturing the entire project\, titled: “ARTISTS ON TOUR\, THE MOVIE.”\n\n\n\n\n\nThey look forward to seeing you there! \n\n\n\n\n\nRoman & Niels \nwww.leefwerk.org\n\nLEEFWERK ON INSTAGRAM

SUMMARY:Marlene Hausegger: Tipping Points
DESCRIPTION:Solo Show \n27/10/2023 – 11/11/2023 \nOpening 27th of October 19:00 \nMarlene Hausegger is particularly interested in the hidden limitations and restricted possibilities of social situations\, which she primarily discovers in the public realm. The results of this work are often temporary interventions and installations – as well as the accompanying drawings and videos which are notable for their formal lightness\, cryptic humour and visual power. \n“Marlene Hausegger lives between Austria and Slovenia\, close to Monfalcone\, an industrial city in transition known as “City of the cruise ships”. The shipyard is operated by the Italian global multinational company Fincantieri\, which reinvented itself by specializing in the construction of cruise ships after a crisis in the 1970s let to the closure of many shipyards all over Europe. Now Fincantieri employs around 2500 people and subcontracts around 14000\, generally non-Italian workers\, mostly from Bangladesh. They live and work usually in very precarious conditions to guarantee the construction of luxurious ships\, whose length can have more than 3000 meters. Marlene witnesses daily the development of an industry exemplary of marine capitalism and its effects on the wounded planet we live in. \nFor her solo exhibition at One Minute Space\, Marlene addresses contemporary contradictions like the obscene business of high-class tourism\, which requires the construction of imponent metallic infrastructure that navigate the same sea where hundreds lose the life while trying to reach European coasts. She does it the way she usually does things: touching and playing\, drawing and molding quotidian\, accessible materials into subtle forms which awake curiosity and convoke us to activate our imagination. What does this object mean? How come she decided to connect A with C\, D with G? Marlene’s precarious assemblages can deceive us with their paradoxical manners: humble materials infuse them with a familiar aura which attracts us without easily revealing their motives. It is as if their opacity finds a way to be friendly\, welcoming our gaze into a slow-paced relationship.” \ntext by Eliana Otta \nMarlene Hausegger (1984) studied at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and at the École des Beaux Arts Montpellier. Since 2019 she teaches at the Art University Linz with Prof. Anna Jermolaewa.  From 2019 to 2022\, she worked as a jury member for the Public Art Committee Lower Austria. Since 2022 she is program board member of Festival der Regionen. She received the Austrian State Stipend for Fine Arts (2018) and the Gabriele-Heidecker Artprize (2023). \nhttp://mmhhh.com/ \nThe exhibition is supported by \n \n

SUMMARY:Konstantinos Giotis: I Forgot Your Name
DESCRIPTION:Solo Show \n\n\n\n\nCurated by Florent Frizet \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThrough the prism of a skewed sense of realism\, Giotis’ work suggests a filter to the perception of our surroundings. Large scale paintings reinforce a sense of ambiguity by absorbing the gaze of the viewer\, exploring the idea that reality is plural and shared. \nKonstantinos Giotis (b.1988) lives and works in Athens. He studied at the Slade School of Fine Art\, UCL (MFA Painting 2015)\, at the Department of Fine Arts and Art Sciences\, University of Ioannina (BA\, 2013) and at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University of Madrid (2011). In his practice\, desires\, fantasies or autobiographical deviations function as points of departure from which to explore representation\, ambiguity\, and painting tropes as building blocks for the construction of a contemporary imaginary. \n\n\n\n\n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Projectrosa at Art Athina
DESCRIPTION:OMS will present Louis-Philippe Scoufaras and Nicolas Milhé at Art Athina\, two artists working on transcending conventions of semiotically charged figuration in the political and mythological field. The work of Louis-Phillipe Scoufaras articulates a relationship between formal representation and its possible transformation in monumental terms; Nicolas Milhé challenges symbolic vocabulary and diverts the signs of power in his works\, involving various media.

SUMMARY:Entrails
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Opening ! \nSolo exhibition by Natalia Papadopoulou \nOPENING: 27/04 \n19:00 – 22:00 \nNatalia Papadopoulou’s solo exhibition entitled “Entrails” is a\ncombined work of visual and sound fragments\, emerging through fluid and\nliquid bodies of the mind. She herself creates a situation that deals with multi-\nlayered and delicate veils of displacements of an existential vortex\, in which she\naspires to absorb the viewer into the subtle and gentle rawness of the self.\nKaleidoscopically\, with larger and smaller fractions\, she pulls out pieces and\nthrows them fiercely on the rocks\, where they dissolve and wash out like a light\nwave at our feet\, as a unique experience. \nMusic performed by Lefteris Volanis \nTEXT by Faidra Vasileiadou \nDURATION: 28/04 – 27/05\nVISITING HOURS: 28-29/04 19:00 – 22:00\, ΤUE 17:00 – 21:00\, Sat 13:00 – 17:00 \nand by appointment

SUMMARY:Folk Fiction Deluxe
DESCRIPTION:Xmas Party \n\nFolk Fiction Deluxe OMS Xmas Party\nWe’re thrilled to invite you to the Folk Fiction Deluxe Xmas Party next Thursday\, December 22nd.\nThe night begins with a screening of the film El Lado Quieto (2021) by Carolina Fusilier and Miko Revereza to mark the closing of our group show “Folk Fiction” curated by Ariana Kalliga.\nThe film navigates the spectral remains of Capaluco\, an island off the pacific coast of Mexico. Among the concrete remains of Capaluco’s theme parks\, fabricated Greek ruins and deserted beach hotels\, nature is steadily gaining ground. We hear the voices of disembodied tour guides\, interspersed with intimately recorded\, speculative conversations between the artists as they reflect on a mysterious sea creature\, sweeping from the Philippines to Mexico. This sea creature is the Siyokoy\, a mythical amphibian found in Philippine folklore and Class b terror films.\nDeluxe OMS party will continue on the dancefloor with DJ sets by Iasonas Kampanis\, Aristeidis Lappas and Konstantinos Lianos.\n\nINFO\n22.12.2022\nFilm Screening at 6 PM\nParty at 8 PM till late

The posters are pigmented inkjet prints on 189g/m2 matt paper. They are released in affordable editions of 10 alongside 1 exhibition print and 1 artist’s proof. The prints are made on demand by Atelier Martin Garanger in Paris.\nLapin-Canard is non-lucrative and remits 60% of profits to the artist. Releases are always celebrated with music\, libations and dances\, in Paris or elsewhere.\n\nLapin-Canard\nby Vincent Pécoil \nIn the beginning\, “Lapin-Canard” was the name given to parties at a bar in Belleville\, organised by\nMatthieu Clainchard and Nicolas Milhé. Since these parties brought together a large number of artists\, the\nidea naturally arose to also make them into artistic events. To avoid the exhibition-in-a-bar pitfall\, with its\nslightly sad connotation of being an exhibition for lack of anything better\, the principle adopted was to\nproduce artists’ posters and present them at each party\, initially one\, and subsequently several. The poster\nor posters were affixed to one of the large windows of the restaurant-bar\, so that they were visible from the\noutside. The first Lapin-Canard party accompanied by the presentation of one of these prints took place on\n1 May 2015 at La Cantine Fabien\, a restaurant-bar located on the Place of the same name. La Cantine\nFabien became the group’s Command Post\, across from the headquarters of the other CP*. In the summer\nof 2015\, Lapin-Canard became an association and publishing house.

SUMMARY:Stef Kamaris: Play Dead
DESCRIPTION:Solo Show \nCurated by Florent Frizet and Nadja Geer \n  \n  \nCheese is time\, time is money\, money is monopoly:  Not only in his art but also in his aphorisms Stef Kamaris formulates a critique of the commodification of capitalism. Kamaris invents instead a coherent world of his own non-representative logic that follows up the pattern of a revolutionary poetic language. This art works with poetry\, semiotics and politics to create a subversive\, punkish\, individual and original truth. A truth you do not come across very often any more in the times of post-truth and influencing. \nOriginality irritates. To call Stef’s work “original” seems nearly understated. Plaster-Bunnies\, Happy Cakes\, Slot Machines\, Credit Rocks\, Banana Carpets\, PacMen\, Fried Eggs\, Jesus Jars\, Flamboyant Sponges\, Oracles from Delphi\, Adams&Eves and Great Great Grand Fathers. Some of these artworks are made out of pillows and cigarettes\, some of them use plaster and concrete and dead fishes\, but a lot – really a lot – are made out of cheese. Babybel Cheese\, Emmental Cheese – and let’s not forget the Danish Blue Cheese.

SUMMARY:Head2Head
DESCRIPTION:HEAD2HEAD is a visual art festival connecting the two dynamic and ever-expanding art scenes of Athens and Reykjavik. The project aims to create fertile ground for the two art scenes to connect\, build bridges and networks through an artistic dialog and exhibition exchange. The two art scenes share the particular culture of a thriving artist-run community that works as a driving force\, fuelling a dynamic and vibrant art scene. Connecting these two kindred art scenes are the artist-run A – DASH (GR) and Kling & Bang (IS) collaborating with 11 artist-run spaces in Athens showcasing the works of 45 Greek and Iceland-based artists. HEAD2HEAD Athens is the first phase of a bilateral visual art festival. The second phase of the project takes place in Reykjavík in 2023\, bringing Athens-based artists to Reykjavík with a parallel exhibition program in various artist-run exhibition spaces in Reykjavík. \nArtists exhibiting in OMS: Ásta Fanney (performance)Logi Leo Gunnarsson\, Ólöf Helga Helgadóttir and Vasilis Zarifopoulos

SUMMARY:Tiffon: Empty Hours
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition Les Heures Creuses aims to restore memories and urban observations\, appearing during the “off-peak hours” – or more literally translated “the empty hours” – times between one and five o’clock\, when the city freezes\, while the sun continues to cloud tracks and thoughts. In this exhibition\, the sculptures converse in a personal composition\, to translate a personal vision of a city that is simultaneously in transition and frozen in time.  Tiffon composes in space\, representing an archaeology of her memories and observations with an assemblage of colors\, shapes\, and materials. Restored out of their architectural context\, inhabiting a different scale in the gallery\, her personal limits of the city have become sculptures. \nAthens is a city with layered history. The fetishisation of Ancient Greece obscures its three thousand-year-long history; wars\, occupation\, internal migration\, the influence of religion\, economic crisis … Oblivion has won over culture; its power has overcome so many stories and traces of the past. In times emergency we are once again forced to pierce through oblivion and to recover part of the historical and cultural heritage\, to transform the appearance of ancient edifices and their function. The ruins of the present are pilled upon the older ones\, while new constructions\, often unfinished\, stay waiting their next oblivion. Athens\, despite its fragile and ad hoc development\, doesn’t collapse though. Inventive\, surprising and rebellious\, it is reborn again and again from its own ruins\, building itself from its own debris\, constantly reinventing itself\, defying its assigned roles. Contemporary and older lifestyles\, nodes of representations and architectures are forced to coexist. \nThe empty hours are not confined in the interior of the bedroom anymore\, hidden from the sun\, nor in the closed eyelids of the resting bodies. They spill over the edges\, on the street and fill the buildings. Emptiness and passivity engulfs the entirety of Athens that lies dormant in the middle of the day. Another rhythm spreads in this feverish atmosphere\, slipping into every detail of everyday life. Frozen time is the one of the building sites abandoned by its workers\, it is the unshakable marble of the temples\, which keeps the past in its veins\, the time that precedes the agitation of an effervescent city. Covered with tags\, posters\, and slogans\, walls keep in themselves the sound of revolts and protests; the silence of off-peak hours is an illusion.
