SUMMARY:Louis-Philippe Scoufaras: Read Me
DESCRIPTION:INTERACTIVE READING PROJECT \nA unique catalogue of texts that will be at Samis Bar in Athens\, available for paid private readings by sex workers. This will take place from October 2024 for an undetermined period of time\, certainly until 2025. \nSamis is located near Victoria Square and has been around for more than 20 years. It operates as a bar that primarily hosts male sex workers\, many of whom are migrants. These workers may hustle\, work on-site in the dark room. \nThe project aims to participate in this existing system\, by slightly shifting its modus operandi. \nLouis-Philippe Scoufaras will build a catalogue of texts that will be available at the bar. Anyone can access this catalogue during Samis’s opening hours\, from 11pm to 6am daily. Visitors can select a text they wish to have read to them and negotiate a price with a worker to do the reading. Once an agreement is reached\, both parties will sign a guest board before heading to a private space where the reading will take place. \nContributors will be credited next to the text titles in the catalogue. The texts can originate from any language\, as translations will be available in Greek\, English and Arabic. They should be of reasonable length\, akin to song lyrics\, a poem\, or a paragraph from a novel. There’s no strict word limit; longer or more complex texts can command higher prices. \nwith contributions by \nSaâdane Afif/Ali Ahmad/Mudar Al Khufash/Ahmed Al Werfalli/Andreas Angelidakis/R. SUMMARY:Fruit Shop
DESCRIPTION:Fruit Shop with Michael Defuster \nFruit Shop is an informal skill sharing group envisioned to provide a platform for discussing shared interests and passions. The intention is to bring together a regular and close-knit community. We want to develop a series of meetings that are cozy\, and at the same time encourage the exchange and the growth of knowledge\, without leaving any traces in the social media or the art world. Themes are as varied as the participants themselves\, and so are formats of dialogue and media of presentation. We will strive to create an intellectual environment\, where all voices\, all genders\, all races\, and all abilities feel comfortable. Privacy\, safety and tenderness are among our top priorities. We are open to all contributions if they come with a sense of responsibility\, continuity and commitment to genuine curiosity and respect. All fruits are equal and at the same time unique. Our fruit-shop is fair trade! For our next meeting Michael Defuster\, one of the initiators\, is going to present his current work in the intersection of architecture\, social research and cultural inquiry\, focusing on questions on memory and trauma. \n  \nOMS MEZZANINE \n19:00-21:00 \n

SUMMARY:Opening: Victor Le Guennec SWITCHING FIGURE
DESCRIPTION:SOLO SHOW \nwith an invitation to Vincent Villain \n“In the middle of the space\, there is this line\, with which we position ourselves indefinitely\, both through its materiality and what it evokes. It establishes a particular feeling of a space that we might traverse. Suggesting our ability to imagine about what lies beyond\, it freezes us in an indefinable moment. Silhouettes then appear\, like punctuation marks giving substance to reality. Like an artefact in a way from the past or an evolving era\, these “Women In Conversation” guide our gaze and set the rhythm of the exhibition\, as if they have been seated here forever. With the presence of a work by Vincent Villain it is as if we are spying into a new passage. He takes part of the exhibition with a different interplay of glances\, reinforcing the intensity of the sculptures and emphasizing our role in the present moment.” (Victor Le Guennec) \nVictor Le Guennec\, born in 1994\, has lived and worked in Athens since 2022. He graduated in 2021 with a Master’s degree from the Superior School of Art and Design in Reims\, France. In 2023\, he co-created the artist-run space Knead in Athens\, which is involved in the neighbourhood of Attiki. His recent works explore sculptural and film dialogues that reveal suspended narratives\, through which an area of the unknown is observed. \nVincent Villain\, born in 1994\, lives and works in Reims. He holds a Master’s degree (DNSEP) from the École Supérieure d’Art et de Design de Reims\, earned in 2021. His multidisciplinary practice spans large-format photography\, sculpture\, and installations. An active member of the artistic collective «The Left Place The Right Space\,» Villain thrives in a collaborative environment that encourages creative exchange and artistic experimentation. In his sculptures and installations\, Vincent Villain delves into the relationship between art and architecture\, focusing closely on materials and their narrative potential. \nImage: “Women in Conversation”\, Victor Le Guennec\, 2024 \n  \nOpening: Friday 15th of November \n19:00 \nDuration: 15-25th of November \nOpening hours: \nMonday -Wednesday: 4-8pm \nThursday-Saturdays 12-3pm

SUMMARY:Louis-Philippe Scoufaras: Trilogy of Terror
DESCRIPTION:Louis-Philippe Scoufaras\, Omphalos\, 2016\, single-channel video projection\, color\, sound\, 90 minutes \n  \nLouis-Philippe Scoufaras \nThe Trilogy of Terror (and its newborns) \nCurated by Asya Yaghmurian \nNovember 25th – December 16th\, 2023 \nExtended by appointment only until 07/01/2024 \n  \nTrilogy of Terror is composed of three extremely time-consuming films\, Panic\, N and Omphalos\, reinterpreting events from the Antique mythology\, filmed in extremely sensitive geo-political locations. \n“In Scoufaras’s trilogy\, mythology and sexuality are used to explore the decline and fall\nof ‘a current moment’. The Trilogy of Terror may leave one seemingly devoid of hope or\nmay represent another instance of externalization of hope—perpetuating the repetition\nof the same mistakes.” ( Asya Yaghmurian) \nLouis-Philippe Scoufaras (*1981 in Montreal\, lives and works in Athens). Through sculpture\, installation\, film\, writing\, sound and performance\, his work explores events drawn from mythology as an episteme to decrypt modernity\, with an iconoclastic insistence.

SUMMARY:LEEFWERK : ARTISTS ON TOUR - THE MOVIE @OMS
DESCRIPTION:Niels Coppens and Roman Luterbacher as LEEFWERK are delighted to present the movie they created using the collected footage from their recent tour.\nDuring 3 months they did a tour with a non fictional\, guerilla type performance piece. ‘ARTISTS ON TOUR’ is a car that has been converted into a merchandising stand with which they drive into contemporary art centers on their way to show the results of their artistic practice. Their art book has become the central outcome of the show. \n\nIt has been made available for purchase\, along with their established credibility\, through a free donation to the highest bidder during the more interactive phase of the performance.\n\nThrough this incredible journey\, they have come to realize that becoming an artist can also be an artistic project.\n\n\nInspired by this self-assured idea\, LEEFWERK has worked on the high-sensitivity events and created a 30-minute film capturing the entire project\, titled: “ARTISTS ON TOUR\, THE MOVIE.”\n\n\n\n\n\nThey look forward to seeing you there! \n\n\n\n\n\nRoman & Niels \nwww.leefwerk.org\n\nLEEFWERK ON INSTAGRAM

SUMMARY:Marlene Hausegger: Tipping Points
DESCRIPTION:Solo Show \n27/10/2023 – 11/11/2023 \nOpening 27th of October 19:00 \nMarlene Hausegger is particularly interested in the hidden limitations and restricted possibilities of social situations\, which she primarily discovers in the public realm. The results of this work are often temporary interventions and installations – as well as the accompanying drawings and videos which are notable for their formal lightness\, cryptic humour and visual power. \n“Marlene Hausegger lives between Austria and Slovenia\, close to Monfalcone\, an industrial city in transition known as “City of the cruise ships”. The shipyard is operated by the Italian global multinational company Fincantieri\, which reinvented itself by specializing in the construction of cruise ships after a crisis in the 1970s let to the closure of many shipyards all over Europe. Now Fincantieri employs around 2500 people and subcontracts around 14000\, generally non-Italian workers\, mostly from Bangladesh. They live and work usually in very precarious conditions to guarantee the construction of luxurious ships\, whose length can have more than 3000 meters. Marlene witnesses daily the development of an industry exemplary of marine capitalism and its effects on the wounded planet we live in. \nFor her solo exhibition at One Minute Space\, Marlene addresses contemporary contradictions like the obscene business of high-class tourism\, which requires the construction of imponent metallic infrastructure that navigate the same sea where hundreds lose the life while trying to reach European coasts. She does it the way she usually does things: touching and playing\, drawing and molding quotidian\, accessible materials into subtle forms which awake curiosity and convoke us to activate our imagination. What does this object mean? How come she decided to connect A with C\, D with G? Marlene’s precarious assemblages can deceive us with their paradoxical manners: humble materials infuse them with a familiar aura which attracts us without easily revealing their motives. It is as if their opacity finds a way to be friendly\, welcoming our gaze into a slow-paced relationship.” \ntext by Eliana Otta \nMarlene Hausegger (1984) studied at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and at the École des Beaux Arts Montpellier. Since 2019 she teaches at the Art University Linz with Prof. Anna Jermolaewa.  From 2019 to 2022\, she worked as a jury member for the Public Art Committee Lower Austria. Since 2022 she is program board member of Festival der Regionen. She received the Austrian State Stipend for Fine Arts (2018) and the Gabriele-Heidecker Artprize (2023). \nhttp://mmhhh.com/ \nThe exhibition is supported by \n \n

DESCRIPTION:Solo Show \n\n\n\n\nCurated by Florent Frizet \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThrough the prism of a skewed sense of realism\, Giotis’ work suggests a filter to the perception of our surroundings. Large scale paintings reinforce a sense of ambiguity by absorbing the gaze of the viewer\, exploring the idea that reality is plural and shared. \nKonstantinos Giotis (b.1988) lives and works in Athens. He studied at the Slade School of Fine Art\, UCL (MFA Painting 2015)\, at the Department of Fine Arts and Art Sciences\, University of Ioannina (BA\, 2013) and at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University of Madrid (2011). In his practice\, desires\, fantasies or autobiographical deviations function as points of departure from which to explore representation\, ambiguity\, and painting tropes as building blocks for the construction of a contemporary imaginary. \n\n\n\n\n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Projectrosa at Art Athina
DESCRIPTION:OMS will present Louis-Philippe Scoufaras and Nicolas Milhé at Art Athina\, two artists working on transcending conventions of semiotically charged figuration in the political and mythological field. The work of Louis-Phillipe Scoufaras articulates a relationship between formal representation and its possible transformation in monumental terms; Nicolas Milhé challenges symbolic vocabulary and diverts the signs of power in his works\, involving various media.

SUMMARY:Entrails
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Opening ! \nSolo exhibition by Natalia Papadopoulou \nOPENING: 27/04 \n19:00 – 22:00 \nNatalia Papadopoulou’s solo exhibition entitled “Entrails” is a\ncombined work of visual and sound fragments\, emerging through fluid and\nliquid bodies of the mind. She herself creates a situation that deals with multi-\nlayered and delicate veils of displacements of an existential vortex\, in which she\naspires to absorb the viewer into the subtle and gentle rawness of the self.\nKaleidoscopically\, with larger and smaller fractions\, she pulls out pieces and\nthrows them fiercely on the rocks\, where they dissolve and wash out like a light\nwave at our feet\, as a unique experience. \nMusic performed by Lefteris Volanis \nTEXT by Faidra Vasileiadou \nDURATION: 28/04 – 27/05\nVISITING HOURS: 28-29/04 19:00 – 22:00\, ΤUE 17:00 – 21:00\, Sat 13:00 – 17:00 \nand by appointment

SUMMARY:Folk Fiction Deluxe
DESCRIPTION:Xmas Party \n\nFolk Fiction Deluxe OMS Xmas Party\nWe’re thrilled to invite you to the Folk Fiction Deluxe Xmas Party next Thursday\, December 22nd.\nThe night begins with a screening of the film El Lado Quieto (2021) by Carolina Fusilier and Miko Revereza to mark the closing of our group show “Folk Fiction” curated by Ariana Kalliga.\nThe film navigates the spectral remains of Capaluco\, an island off the pacific coast of Mexico. Among the concrete remains of Capaluco’s theme parks\, fabricated Greek ruins and deserted beach hotels\, nature is steadily gaining ground. We hear the voices of disembodied tour guides\, interspersed with intimately recorded\, speculative conversations between the artists as they reflect on a mysterious sea creature\, sweeping from the Philippines to Mexico. This sea creature is the Siyokoy\, a mythical amphibian found in Philippine folklore and Class b terror films.\nDeluxe OMS party will continue on the dancefloor with DJ sets by Iasonas Kampanis\, Aristeidis Lappas and Konstantinos Lianos.\n\nINFO\n22.12.2022\nFilm Screening at 6 PM\nParty at 8 PM till late

SUMMARY:Under The Seven Planets Parade
DESCRIPTION:The artist duo Célia Picard and Hannes Schreckensberger present their on-going work developed during their three months artist-in-residency in Athens. Mystical chthonian\, cosmic and non-human symbols ornamented these protective hand felted artefacts. \nwww.picard-schreckensberger.net\n\nThe artist-in-residency is supported by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Arts\, Culture\, the Civil Service and Sport.
