Artist Talk with Jenny Marketou and screening of her film Rivering (2022)

Sunday, November 27th from 16:00 – 18:00 PM

At: One Minute Space, Athens

No prior registration required

Join us this Sunday, November 27th from 4 to 6 PM for a talk by New York based artist Jenny Marketou followed by a screening of her film Rivering (2022). The talk will center on Marketou’s multidimensional practice and will focus on her projects currently on view in New York, Athens and Vienna.

Marketou’s recent body of work considers the ever-evolving relations between climates, rivers and waterbodies. In her process, she engages with oysters, water and sand as entangled ecosystems and “actants” (Bruno Latour), indicating their active power as materials and their capacity to intervene upon our shared ecological and historical trajectories. The artist will discuss her research into more-than-human worlds, indigenous storytelling and oysters as precious coastal resources.

The talk is informed by the artist’s immersive research-based artistic practice spanning over three years as an artist in residence with The Billion Oyster Project, The Harbor School and Swale Lab on Governors Island in New York.

The event is organized in the framework of Folk Fiction, a group exhibition curated by Ariana Kalliga, on view at One Minute Space from November 19th through December 22nd, 2022.
